Udhavum Ullangal Home : Organizers and Members of the Home, Students of Adambakkam Home

As planned, the event was conducted in Udhavum Ullangal Illam, Adambakkam, Chennai on 2nd July, Saturday. People from bangalore reached Chennai on 2nd July 2011 early morning and went to their friends home to rest for the day and gathered in the Udhavum Ullangal home at around 6 PM IST. People from Chennai had joined us.

Though the dresses were stitched for the students in both the homes situated at Adambakkam and Maraimalai Nagar (total 105 students), we could not gather all the students due to transport/travel overheads. We had just distributed the dresses to the kids at Adambakkam Home only. Unfortunatley we could NOT have the manager Mr Padamanaban sir as he was not well for the few days. Other organizers had coordinated with SHaDE volunteers.

The Uniform dresses were distributed along with the sweets given by Udhavum Ullangal home itself.

The event started off with the speech by Raghavan about the overall activities for this event with a special thanks to the Payir Team (http://payir.org) of Trichy, who is also an NGO and they are into Village Empowerment. A special thanks to the founder Mr. Senthil and the volunteer Ms. Preethi who had coordinated with our SHaDE Volunteer Ms Jhanani Priya V for visiting the home and taking the measurements of the kids. I should definitely mention the way the Payir team had done their beautiful job. Not just the dresses were stitched properly, also the name of each student was written in the collar of the shirt and each set of uniform was neatly packed in a polythene cover! It showed how focussed and diligent they are in their work! Excellent work Payir Team!!

Jhanani priya had contributed a lot towards the activity and I had let her take charge of this appeal completely. She had done her best for the successful completion of this activity! Kudos to you Jhanani! :)

Also a very special thanks to other volunteer Ms Sandhiya and her father who had helped by visiting the home in Maraimalai Nagar kids and getting their measurements and also talking to the tailors. Unfortunately they could not join hands on the events. However, a very special and sincere thanks to Sandhiya and her dad! :)

The uniform dresses and the sweets were distributed to the kids of Udhavum Ullangal by all the people gathered in the room including our volunteers! The kids were really happy on receiving and we wished them a very good life!!

Almost towards the end, one of our volunteers Ms Priya Viayakumar had arrived with a very good artwork done by her own on a glass. It was a peacock. The wonderful gift was handed over to one of the students who sat on the first row! Thank you Priya for your diligence! :)
