As planned, the event was conducted in LOTUS, Salem on 20th Jun 2011, Sunday. People from bangalore gathered in Majestic, Cantontment Railway Stations and reached Salem at around 10 15 AM.
Tamilselvi Mam took so much of strain / risks to carry the notebooks from Madurai to Salem as she is from Madurai and the notebooks were printed in Madurai only. We had already discussed only to bring the notebooks for Salem and to keep the Selvayam notebooks in Madurai itself as it would have overheads to bring them back to Madurai after the event :). It looked like the parcels were manageable to bring on hand and in the bus initially as I had asked the Mam to get it evaluated by the warden. However, it was the misconception which introduced further overheads. She had been running around to enquire the parcel service in various bus offices (KPN etc.,) but no one was able to deliver it on the next day (Sunday). Finally, she had decided to get them in her Car itself. Unforunately on the way, the car broke down and they hired a cab in Namakkal and reached Salem at around 12 30 PM. But on her way back, she got to know that the Car could not get repaired and she had to get the vehcile towed all the way back to Madurai. Not to mention about the cost involved, the overheads and difficulties she would have experienced is what made me feel bad. Sorry about the incident Mam and I believe the now car is back to the normalcy! :) A special thanks to you for all the efforts you had put in!!
Once all the other people had gathered, we have arranged the notebooks in the proper order along with the stationeries (Pen, Pencil, Eraser, Scale etc.,) in the table.
The event started off with the introductory speech by Sister Celine and her words of appreciations with thanks to the entire SHaDE team! The surprise news was that the term 'Shades' was one of the three choices which they had chosen while naming the LOTUS a decade back! :) Felt good on hearing the same. Following the sister's speech, I had narrated about our SHaDE Team's inception and the way we work. I had also mentioned about the overall activities we took care for the Notebook Distribution and thanked all the people right from the contributors, Messers Chittal Papers in Madurai who had helped us printing the notebooks with our customized Wrappers. It was followed by TamilSelvi mam's speech and her word of thanks to SHaDE team for our continued support in all the possible manners.
The notebook and stationeries were distributed to the kids of LOTUS by all the people gathered in the room including our volunteers! The kids were really happy on receiving and we wished them a very good life!!
After the event, we had a very good lunch prepared by LOTUS team and it was awesome! Different variety rice accompanied by a Sweet (kesari)! Thank you team! :)
